Nigel Walsh

A native of Yorkshire and a graduate of Cambridge University in Natural Sciences, Nigel Walsh spent most of his working life as an administrator and manager in the National Health Service in Hampshire and Devon. Having spent the early part of his career in general management, Nigel became Director of Planning at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, in which he had responsibility for the multi-million pound programme of capital development between 1985 and 2006.

When the hospital achieved foundation status in 2004, Nigel was appointed to the Board of Directors. He also successfully led a bid for a major National Lottery grant for the hospital’s arts project, and for EU joint funding for “alternative” transport initiatives, including the hospital’s dedicated park-and-ride service.

As the programme of major capital development reached its conclusion, with the opening of the new Centre for Women’s Health, Nigel retired from the hospital to work as a freelance business planner and project manager. He has worked on a number of charity and church projects as well as co-ordinating the government-sponsored Chorister Outreach Programme for Devon primary schools, based on Exeter Cathedral.
